Overgrown

Mmm, the pink overgrowth of Brinstar ranks as one of my favourite areas, too. I love the music there! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l…" width="19" height="19" alt="" title="La la la la"/>

I think Samus' back looks strange because there's not that much depth to her herself. The actual image is done well in regards to depth but Samus herself looks a bit too flat. I think it's a lighting problem more than anything. The shadows on her are too monochrome, if that makes sense.

It could also be rectified by more thorough anatomy. Right now her arm cannon is a bit off because the foreshortening isn't done properly, and the round parts of her suit don't really look all that round. Next time, try to start out your image with blocking in the main shapes. Simple tubes for the arms, spheres for shoulders, and cubes for the chest and hip areas. That would help a lot in the long run! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Lightning this one is a bit tricky, because the pink area of Brinstar is very well lit so you don't have a lot of darker shadows to help the image pop out. If anything, I think adding simple rim lighting around Samus would help a lot. It would help differentiate her from the background and make the image more appealing.

Over all, though, I do like this image. I don't see pictures of Brinstar's pink overgrowth a lot, so it was a very nice surprise to see this in my inbox. I like the way you colour as well. You seem to be on your way to becoming an awesome artist. I hope to see more from you in the future.
